Client's cat sat on the power button during a 2 hour data recovery, and I didn't notice the machine was off for 20 minutes
Spent 20 minutes poking at a drive that wasn't even spinning because a 14 pound cat named Biscuit had quietly parked himself on the tower's power button, so now I always check the fans before I start diagnosing anything.

Heard about a guy on a podcast who taped a clear plastic cup over his power button after his cat did the same thing. Cut a little notch for the cables and everything. Cats love warm electronics so they just keep coming back to the same spot. Checking the fans first is smart, you can also listen for the drive spin up before you waste time on anything else.
