A printer driver from 2011 ate my whole Tuesday

Got a call about an old HP laserjet that would only spit out half pages, so I spent 6 hours tweaking settings and swapping cables before realizing the firmware was from 2011. The fix was one legacy driver download that took 4 minutes, and I nearly kicked myself for not checking the manufacturer forum first. Has anyone else wasted a shift on a machine that just needed an ancient update, or is it just me?
