I finally had a tenant tell me what they actually thought about my lease terms

So last Tuesday I was showing a unit in an old strip mall on 3rd street and a guy just stopped me mid-sentence. He said 'your lease is built like you think I'm gonna trash the place but I've been running a barbershop for 12 years.' It hit different because he was right - I copied most of my terms from a template I found online and never really thought about how one-sided they looked. He wanted a 5 year term with a cap on annual increases instead of the standard 3% bump. Has anyone else had a tenant call them out on something that actually made you change how you write leases?

Eh, a 5 year term with caps isn't exactly groundbreaking.

@shah.shane is right, not sure why people are acting like this is some huge reform. A 5 year limit plus caps barely changes anything for the average person dealing with this stuff. Honestly feels like they're patting themselves on the back for doing the bare minimum.
