Watched a diver in Port Arthur skip his pre-dive gear check for 6 weeks, then the hose let go at 40 feet
I work out of a small shop near the Sabine River and we do dock and hull work all over Port Arthur. There is a guy on our crew who started cutting his pre-dive checks short around late January, maybe 2 minutes instead of the full 10, because we were getting rushed on a job with a tight schedule. Last Tuesday his airline fitting popped loose at about 40 feet on a routine inspection, and he had to go on his bailout and surface. Nobody got hurt, but the fitting had a crack that a real check would have caught weeks ago. Has anyone else seen a crew get so schedule squeezed that the gear checks are the first thing to go?
