Vent: Had a boss push me to sign off on a bad umbilical inspection
Felt wrong to okay gear that could fail down there.

Man, that's rough, and it shows a pattern I notice way too often. In my experience, bosses across different jobs push to skip steps for speed, like in retail where they might ignore broken equipment. That pressure to cut corners feels universal, from kitchens to construction sites, always putting people at risk later. Trusting your gut on that inspection was the right call, even if it's hard in the moment.

@harper_singh14, you say the pressure to cut corners feels universal, but I doubt it's that serious. Many bosses I've met stick to the rules because they don't want accidents or legal trouble. They understand that rushing can cause more delays later. While there are always bad examples, I think most workplaces try to do things right. It might not be as common as you think, just more talked about when it goes wrong. Your point is valid, but maybe the pattern isn't everywhere.
