Unpopular opinion: surface supply beats scuba for most inland work now

I used to swear by scuba for bridge inspections, but after switching to surface supply for a 3-week job on the Mississippi last month, my bottom time nearly doubled and I felt way safer. Anyone else seeing a bigger shift toward surface supply gear for river and lake jobs?

You ever try working a wreck site with a 20 foot vis day on scuba? I did a similar switch last fall on a reservoir job and my gas consumption dropped by a third. The umbilical let me stay down through the current shifts without burning through my air, and the hot water suit made 45 degree water feel like a bath. Plus not having to surface every 90 minutes saved us a full day of demob.

WISH I'd had that hot water suit on my last Lake Erie job, froze my tail off for three days straight.
