The day I found a lobster pot full of cash near Portland Harbor

I was doing a bottom survey off Portland last November and came across a crusty old lobster trap that had a waterproof bag inside it. Opened it up and there was like $600 in twenties and a note saying 'thanks for returning my gear.' Made me think twice about skipping salvage checks. Anyone else ever find something wild on the ocean floor?

Did the note have a name or anything on it, or was it totally anonymous like that? Seems like someone was pretty determined to get their trap back if they offered a reward like that... makes you wonder if they left a few of those bags out there. I'd be tempted to check every single trap I found after a find like that.

Ha, no joke @harper254 - I'd be checking every dang trap I found for a while after that. Had a similar thing happen last fall, found a nice Foxpro caller with a note taped to it offering $50 cash no questions asked. Turned it in, got the money, but the whole thing felt weird. Made me think whoever lost it was running something more serious than just casual trapping, maybe a business or something.
