Shoutout to the retired diver in Galveston who told me surface decompression is the safest game in town
I used to believe that in-water deco was always easier on the body than sitting in a chamber. Then a retired guy I met at a dock in Galveston told me surface decompression has a lower bend rate because you get out of the water fast and the chamber does the rest. He said the stats he saw from the 90s showed it was safer than long in-water stops. It surprised me because most of the young guys I work with act like the chamber is some kind of punishment. Has anyone else heard that surface deco numbers are actually better, or was this guy just old-school and stubborn?
