Saw a diver skip his pre-dive gear check on a 90 foot job last Tuesday
Kid was in his 20s, new to the crew. He suited up real fast. Popped his helmet on without checking the one-way valves. I called him out. He rolled his eyes. Then he hit 50 feet and his comms started crackling. Water got in. Had to pull him up early. Whole job got delayed an hour. You guys ever seen someone skip a basic step and almost cost everyone the day?

Was the kid at least apologetic after he got hauled up, or did he still have that attitude? I've seen that same eye roll from new guys who think they know better after watching YouTube tutorials. The one-way valve check is literally a 10 second visual test. Skipping it on a 90 foot dive is like driving a car without checking the brakes. Did the crew give him hell about it later, or did the supervisor just let it slide with a warning?

Yeah people act like he almost killed everyone. Its not that deep. @rowan849 the kid got chewed out sure but the supervisor is a pretty chill guy. A 90 foot dive with a backup valve isnt instant death if one fails. He rolled his eyes but apologized after the yelling stopped. Crew gave him some crap at dinner but it was more joking than anything. Everyone's blown this way out of proportion.
