I used to think those neoprene dive hoods with the extra flap were just a gimmick for new guys.
Did a salvage job in the Puget Sound last month and my regular hood got a tear, so I borrowed one. The flap actually seals way better and I stayed warm for a full 90-minute dive. Anyone else have a piece of gear they wrote off that turned out to be solid?

Buddy of mine said the same thing about split fins until he borrowed mine on a reef dive off Key Largo. @spencer_bell is right, it's less about being lazy and more about not wasting energy on flutter kicks all day.

Yeah, @spencer_bell's onto something... it's less about being lazy and more about current management.

My buddy Mark swore those split fin designs were just for lazy swimmers. He tried a pair on a reef cleanup in Florida last year and said he cut his kick count in half by the end of the first tank. Came back totally annoyed that he'd been wrong for so long. What gear did you end up switching to after that dive?

Wait, isn't split fin efficiency more about reducing fatigue than just being for lazy swimmers?
