Had a regulator free flow at 90 feet on a bridge inspection job
It was on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway project last Tuesday. I was checking a piling and my primary just started dumping air. I switched to my backup, signaled my tender, and made a normal ascent. Everyone says to just breathe off a free flow, but that's a fast way to empty your tank and panic. What's your go-to move when a reg goes bad down there?

Miles_campbell39 is right, but have you tried shutting the tank valve for a second to reset it?

Totally agree with that advice. I've had a free flow freak me out before and that quick reset saved my dive. It's scary how fast things can go wrong down there.

I mean, switching to your backup was the right call for sure. I had a buddy who tried to ride out a free flow once and nearly burned through his air before he even started up. It just seems like a gamble when you're that deep.
