Got yelled at by an old diver in Port Arthur about my drysuit valves

I was on a job in Port Arthur last month prepping for a platform inspection. Old timer named Ray came up and started yelling at me because my exhaust valve was on the right side instead of the left. He said having it on the right dumps bubbles right in your face when you tilt your head and messes with your buoyancy control. I always just used whatever valve setup the suit came with but he showed me how switching sides made a huge difference in visibility. Has anyone else run into old school divers with super strong opinions about gear setup?

Whoa wait, @cameron318 you had a guy actually yell at you about hose routing too? That's wild, I thought the valve thing was just a one-off grumpy diver moment.

Did he show you the trick with the yellow hose routing too? I had a similar run in with a guy in the Gulf who insisted my inflator hose should always cross under my arm instead of over it. Switched it up and honestly he was right. It takes a certain kind of person to yell at a stranger about gear but those old timers usually know what they're talking about.
