Got called out for my sloppy umbilical wrap on a job in Tampa
A diver with 15 years on me watched me pack up and said, 'You wrap that like a garden hose, not a lifeline.' I started using a proper figure-eight coil and it's way faster to deploy now. What's one piece of gear handling you had to unlearn?

Garden hose, not a lifeline" is such a good way to put it. I read a thread about people having to unlearn just stuffing rope into a bag. The proper flake makes such a difference.

So you're telling me there's a whole group of people out there who just cram rope in like they're packing a suitcase for a fight? I guess they enjoy the thrill of wrestling a tangled mess when they actually need to use it.

Honestly it's like people forget that how you handle your tools says a lot about how you handle the pressure. I see it all the time with guys who just jam their gear into a truck bed and then wonder why something's broken or tangled when they need it most. Tbh learning to respect the small stuff early saves you from looking like a fool later.
