Warning: I used to only read mainstream DC/Marvel and missed out for years
Honestly, I spent like 5 years just buying Batman and X-Men issues from my shop in Austin, thinking indie stuff was weird. Then last summer a clerk shoved East of West into my hands and I realized I was missing 90% of the best storytelling in comics. Did anyone else get stuck in a big two bubble for way too long?

Your line about missing "90% of the best storytelling" really hit home for me. I heard a guy at a con talk about how indie comics take bigger risks because they don't have to keep characters alive for the next issue. He pointed out that something like Saga would never work at Marvel because the stakes are too real and permanent. That stuck with me, and now I pick up whatever random indie titles catch my eye at the shop. It's like discovering a whole new world of writers who aren't afraid to end a story on their own terms.

Do you think Marvel and DC will ever let a creator end a major character's story for good, no resurrections?

Wait, did you say Saga wouldn't work at Marvel @scott.grace? I used to think the big two could do anything, but that con guy you heard totally changed my mind too.
