Warning: I finally figured out why my comic bags stopped sticking and it was the dumbest fix
So for about 2 years my bags would peel open on my shelf and I thought it was just cheap tape, so I kept buying different rolls and switching brands like an idiot. Last month a guy at my local shop in Portland watched me bagging and said the bags were fine, but my board was too thick, so the fold was fighting itself and popping the tape. I switched from the 24 mil boards to the thin 20 mil ones and suddenly every single bag held shut with just one strip of tape. I tested it on 40 books over the weekend and not one popped open, where before I was getting 5 or 6 a box. The dumb part is I had a whole box of thick boards I'd bought in bulk, so I'm just using those for really beat up reader copies where it doesn't matter. Anyway, has anyone else run into this? I feel like nobody talks about board thickness when they talk about bagging.

Sounds like you maybe just had bad luck with tape or humid air in your place? I've used the thick 24 mil boards for years and my bags hold fine with a single piece of scotch tape, and I'm in way worse humidity than Portland. Not saying your fix didn't work for you, but a board being a hair thicker shouldn't really be strong enough to fight a tape seal unless the bag is crazy tight to begin with. Idk, seems like one of those things where the real fix was something else and the boards just got blamed.
