Warning: Five years of buying at local shops vs two years of going to cons only
I started collecting back in 2018 hitting up comic shops near me in Austin, and my pulls were decent but nothing wild. Then I switched to only buying at conventions and my collection got way better covers and variants. Has anyone else seen a big jump in quality just from changing where you buy?

Con artists running those convention booths know your wallet is soft.

Better covers and variants" lol yeah because at cons you're paying triple cover price for the privilege of getting a sketch variant from some artist who drew Batman eating a taco. I did the same thing though, drove from Austin to Dallas for a con last year and dropped $200 on a foil cover that was just the regular issue with shiny paint. My local shop guys still give me the side eye when I walk in now, probably because they know I'm cheating on them with a convention center.
