Warning about the 'Dark Phoenix Saga' at my local shop
Three different people this week have called it a 'Jean Grey story', but it's really about the X-Men as a team. How do you guys explain that to new readers?

I mean, the cover has her front and center, so I get why they'd say that. But the story is all about how the team falls apart trying to save her. It's their loyalty and choices that drive the whole thing. Maybe just point out the key issues where Cyclops and Professor X have to make those brutal calls.

Honestly just tell them to read the damn thing. The first time someone called it a Jean solo book, I handed them my copy of issue 137. That last page with Cyclops walking away from the team, that's the real gut punch. The whole story is the X-Men failing to fix a problem, not Jean being the problem. Maybe point out how much page time is about Scott and Logan arguing over how to handle it.

Tbh I've done exactly what @henry_hernandez said, just handed them issue 137 and told them to flip to the last page. People get so hung up on Jean being the front and center cover but they forget the whole Phoenix saga is about Scott making impossible choices and the team falling apart around it. Ngl, if you just pull up the panel where Cyclops walks off into the snow, that shuts down the "Jean solo book" argument real quick.
