Spent $90 on a short box at a flea market in Columbus and it turned out to be the best comic buy I ever made
So about a year and a half ago I handed over $90 for a beat up short box at a flea market outside Columbus, and the guy selling it wouldn't let me look inside first, which should have been a red flag. I figured worst case I'd get a bunch of 90s junk and some water damage, but I opened it up in my trunk and found a run of old horror comics from the 70s, mostly in decent shape, plus a few keys I didn't even know I wanted. My whole comic crew thinks I'm crazy for buying a closed box, and honestly I get it, because 9 out of 10 times that gamble is just a donation. What made this one work was the seller clearly had no idea what was in there and priced it by the box, not by the book, which almost never happens anymore. If it had been a box of foil covers from 1993, I'd be out $90 and writing a very different post right now. So here's what I want to know, has anybody else ever taken a real gamble on a sealed lot like this, and did it pay off or did you get burned?
