Showerthought: grading comics by the cover price era is backwards and I finally proved it
Everyone at my local shop in Akron keeps saying late 80s books are worthless just because they printed a million copies. Last month I grabbed a run of 12 Suicide Squad issues from a dollar bin and actually read them instead of bagging them, and the writing holds up way better than half the hot books people chase from 2019. The number on the cover has nothing to do with whether the story works, but people keep using print runs as a stand in for quality. Anybody else have a cheap run that made them rethink what collecting should even be about?
Man, I hate to burst the bubble but nobody's out here reading dollar bin books as some bold statement, they just want cheap reading. The print run thing is real for resale though, that's just how the market works. Still, if the story hits for you then who cares what the slab crowd thinks, right?
