Random comic shop guy told me to stop bagging modern issues and I actually listened

Guy at a shop in Austin said poly bags trap moisture and ruin the grade on newer books over time, so I pulled the bags off all my post-2000 comics. Anyone else ditch bags on modern stuff or is that just a Texas thing?

Moisture trapping is real but mostly a problem if you live somewhere humid and don't have AC running. Texas in summer definitely counts. But the bigger issue with bagging modern books is that poly bags can get brittle and split along the spine over time if you handle them much.

Oh come on, I gotta push back on this a little... I've been bagging my comics and paperbacks for years in the south with no AC half the time, and I've never had a bag split on the spine unless I was being super rough with it. If you get the right thickness of poly, like 2 mil or thicker, it stays flexible even in humidity. The moisture thing is way more of a risk than a brittle bag, I've seen mold eat through a whole collection in a closet without bags... that's the real nightmare.
