PSA: I used to only collect key issues from the 60s and 70s. Now I grab dollar bin weirdos.

Back in 2019 I would only buy first appearances or major death issues, and my longboxes were all serious investment pieces. Then I picked up a beat-up copy of Omega Men #3 for a buck at a shop in Portland because the cover art was so odd, and now I actively hunt for obscure one-off characters from the 80s. Has anyone else made the switch from chasing value to chasing the strange stuff?

Dollar bin weirdos are usually the ones with the best backup features and letters pages, which is half the fun of reading older books.

Right? The letters pages were the best part of old comics. You got to see fans arguing about continuity errors from years before, or people sending in wild theories that were totally debunked in the next issue. And those backup features were like a free bonus story that nobody asked for but ended up being way more creative than the main book. Dollar bin books are like time capsules of weird ideas that never made it big. You miss out on all that charm if you only buy the expensive key issues or new releases.
