My buddy swore silver age comics are overrated. Is he right or wrong?

So a guy I know from the local shop said Silver Age stuff is just nostalgia bait and the stories are actually weak compared to Modern Age. He pointed at my copy of Amazing Spider-Man #50 and said it's only worth money because of the cover. Meanwhile I think those early Stan Lee stories built the whole foundation for what came after. I've been collecting for about 12 years and always valued the older stuff. But lately I've seen more people online backing his take. What do you all think? Has anyone else had a friend totally change how you see a whole era of comics?

Whoa wait, your buddy actually said ASM #50 is only worth money because of the cover? That's insane. The whole "Spider-Man No More" story is literally one of the most copied plots in comics history.

@caseywest exactly, sold my copy last year and the story was the main draw for the buyer, not just that cover.
