My buddy at the comic shop said my pull list was 'too safe' and it's been bugging me for a week

He pointed out I only grab cape books from the big two and said I'm missing all the weird indie stuff that actually pushes the medium forward. Has anyone else had a friend call them out on being boring with their picks?

A buddy at my shop did the same thing to me last year. He was right, I was missing stuff like East of West and Saga that actually made me feel something new. Now I still grab Batman but I mix in some weird indie books and it's made Wednesday way more fun. Sometimes you need someone to gently push you.

Oh heck, you just described me a few years ago. I was strictly Marvel and DC until a buddy shoved a stack of Image books into my hands. Now I grab all kinds of weird stuff I never would have tried. He was right, even if it stung a little at the time.

I get what you're saying, but "stung a little" seems like a strong reaction for just trying different comic books. It's not like your buddy told you your favorite band was terrible, he handed you some fun reading material. I guess I just don't see the big deal in sticking with what you know if that's what you genuinely like.
