Appreciation post: my local shop owner's 'three issue rule' for new readers
I was trying to get into a new run and felt overwhelmed, so he told me to just read the first three issues of any arc before deciding to drop it. That extra bit of patience saved me from bailing on a series I ended up loving.

Wait, you have a local shop that still sells single issues? That's the real shocker here. Mine just sells trades and statues now. The three issue rule is solid, but I'm stuck on the fact you can walk in and browse floppies. That's a dying art.

Used to think trades were fine but @angela191 made me miss the fun of flipping through new comics each week.

Grabbed three random issues of a series I knew nothing about. Ended up loving the backup stories in issue #2 more than the main one. @angela191 I feel you on the floppy drought. My shop still has a spinner rack by the register with dollar bin stuff. The three issue rule works best when you can actually hold the paper. Something about flipping pages beats digital every time.
