A guy at my shop called my pull list a tourist trap and it stung because he was right
I have been buying floppies for about 6 years and my pull list had ballooned to 22 books a month, mostly stuff I was not even excited to read. A regular at my shop in Sacramento looked at my stack and asked if I was reading them or just scared of missing out. I did not have an answer, so I sat down and counted how many of those 22 I could actually remember the plot of from two months back. It was 5. I cut the list to 7 books and put the rest on a trade wait list, and my monthly spending went from $95 to about $30. The weird part is I like the books I kept way more now because I am not rushing through them. How do you all decide when a book earns a spot on the pull list versus waiting for the trade?
Wait, only 5 out of 22? That is wild. I would have guessed I remembered more than that but now I am scared to actually test myself. Six years is a long time to build up a list like that too, so cutting it down to 7 must have felt like ripping off a bandaid. The part that gets me is you spend less and like the books more, that is backwards from what I would expect.
