Tried a Japanese siphon brewer at a friend's house and made a mess that looked like a science experiment exploded

I spent 45 minutes cleaning coffee grounds off her white ceiling while she just stood there laughing with her phone out, so has anyone else had a siphon brewer go rogue on them or was it just my shaky hands?

The first time I used one of those things I managed to send a stream of hot water straight into an open drawer full of spoons. My buddy's kitchen sounded like a wind chime for about ten seconds before everything went quiet and we just stared at each other. He still brings it up every time I come over and makes me use a french press now.

Gotta disagree with you @sagelane, those things are way easier than a french press once you get the hang of it.
