Shoutout to the guy at the Sunday market who made me taste my own coffee blind

Last week I brought my usual home brew to the stall in Fayetteville and he poured it next to his $6 cup from a paper filter, and I honestly couldn't tell which was which until he pointed at mine, so who taught me to roast for color alone, has anyone else had their palate handed to them like that?
