Serious question, did you know a single coffee tree only produces about one pound of roasted beans a year?

I read that in a library book about coffee farming and it made me appreciate my morning cup a lot more, so how do you think that impacts the price we pay for specialty beans?

Right, and @ward.nathan that's exactly it - especially with single origin stuff, that one pound per tree means farmers gotta charge more just to keep the lights on. If you want the price to drop, look for blends since they use beans from multiple harvests.

One pound a year from a whole tree... that's actually crazy. No wonder the good stuff costs so much.

Some trees can produce a few pounds in a good year though.
