Pour over vs French press for my 5am weekday cup, I switched and now I'm second guessing
I've been using a French press every morning for about 3 years and it takes me 4 minutes from grind to cup, which matters when I'm out the door at 5:20. Last month I got a cheap pour over cone and started doing that instead because I read it gives you a cleaner cup, and honestly I can taste the difference but now my routine takes almost 9 minutes and I'm late twice this week. The French press gave me that thick oily body I actually liked, but the pour over makes the light roast from the shop on 5th street taste way more fruity and less muddy. I keep going back and forth on which one is actually worth the time on a work day. Do you all stick with one method or switch based on how much time you have?
Man, 9 minutes versus 4 is brutal when you're already up at that hour. I feel you on the back and forth, because that fruity light roast taste is real and once you notice it it's hard to un-notice it. But being late twice in one week would mess with my head more than muddy coffee ever could. Maybe keep the pour over for weekends when you can actually enjoy it, and let the French press handle the 5am dash? That thick oily body is nothing to sneeze at either, some mornings you just want coffee that hugs you back.
