Overheard someone at a cafe say single origin is overrated, got me thinking

I was grabbing a pour over at that little spot on 5th and this guy tells his friend that single origin beans are just a marketing thing, he only buys blends under $15 a bag. It made me realize I've been chasing rare lots from Ethiopia and Colombia, but half the time my everyday cup is a blend anyway. For a roofer, I spend way too much time on this, but has anyone else found a solid house blend that beats a fancy single origin most mornings?

Blends usually cost less, but that guy's missing the point about flavor.
