My French press broke this morning and I'm actually glad
I've been using the same Bodum French press for like 5 years and the carafe just cracked when I poured hot water in. Figured I'd try my roommate's Aeropress instead and honestly the coffee came out way cleaner with no grit at the bottom. It took me under 2 minutes to brew a single cup too. Has anyone else switched methods after a gear failure?

The Aeropress actually takes longer than 2 minutes if you let it steep. The recommended time is like 30 seconds of stirring then 30 seconds of pressing, so really more like a minute if you're fast. You might be rushing through without letting the coffee bloom properly. I did the same thing when I first got mine, the coffee came out thin and sour. Try letting it sit for a full minute after stirring before you press down, that's when it really gets the flavor out.

Nah I gotta disagree with you on waiting a full minute. The whole point of the Aeropress is speed and clean extraction, not letting it sit there like a French press. I've been making Aeropress coffee for about a year now and I do a quick 15 second stir then push through in about 20 seconds. Comes out smooth every time, no sourness. If your coffee is tasting thin and sour with a fast press, that's your grind being too coarse or your water temp being too low, not the timing. French press grit drove me nuts for years and the Aeropress solved that problem by design. You don't need to baby it with long steep times to get a good cup.
