I finally dropped $80 on a fancy coffee grinder and it ruined my morning routine

Honestly, I thought upgrading from my $20 blade grinder to a burr one would be a game changer. Ngl, I spent 80 bucks on this thing online and it took me 3 tries just to get the grind size right. First cup came out bitter as hell and I ended up dumping it down the sink. Has anyone else had a new grinder mess up their brew for a week straight?

Did you check if your grinder needs a break-in period? My buddy Tom went through the exact same thing with his, he bought a moderately priced one and for the first two weeks every cup was either sour or bitter. He ended up watching like six YouTube videos and realized he was using way too fine a grind for his drip machine (which is funny because my friends and I always joke about overcomplicating coffee). After he got a cheap scale off amazon and actually measured his beans, things got way better. I think new grinders just take some time to figure out, especially if you're coming from a blade grinder where you just hold the button and hope for the best.

The break in period is real but honestly I think most of it is the user figuring out the grinder not the grinder itself. I spent a week making terrible coffee before I realized I was cranking it to the finest setting because it felt more "precise" or whatever. Ended up with a cup that tasted like someone yelled at the beans through a megaphone. @paul_lane80 your buddy Tom's story about the scale hits close to home, I still use a measuring spoon like a caveman and just pray the ratios work out. Maybe I need to accept that coffee involves math and stop pretending I can eyeball it.
