Finally pulled the trigger on a $40 burr grinder and it's like a different drink

I've been using a blade grinder for years, telling myself the upgrade wasn't worth it. I found a decent manual one online and decided to try it. The difference in my morning pour-over is crazy, no more bitter sludge and way more flavor. Anyone have tips for dialing in the grind size for a V60?

Honestly I gotta disagree, I think people get way too caught up in gear. I used a blade grinder for a decade and my coffee was just fine, it's more about the beans and how you brew it. Tbh that $40 could go toward better coffee instead of another gadget. You can get a pretty even grind with a blade grinder if you just pulse it and shake it a bit. Feels like everyone just parrots the same advice without actually trying to make their old stuff work.

My buddy swore by his blade grinder for years. Then he tried my cheap hand grinder on a whim. He was shocked how much better his old beans tasted.

Man that's exactly how I felt! @jana_hayes31 said it right - my buddy went through the same thing. I had a blade grinder for years too and thought it was fine. Then I got a cheap hand grinder and it was like night and day. No more muddy sludge at the bottom of my cup. For the V60 I'd start with a medium fine setting and adjust from there. Too many fines was ruining my pour overs before.
