Buddy at work swore by microwaving my coffee cup first, actually worked

My coworker Dave in plumbing told me to microwave my ceramic mug for 30 seconds before pouring in fresh coffee. I thought he was messing with me but tried it last Monday. The coffee stays hot for almost 45 minutes instead of going cold in 15. Has anyone else tried preheating their cup or is this just a weird hardware store trick?

My wife started doing this with our travel mugs last winter and I thought she was crazy. Now I microwave my big ceramic mug for a full 45 seconds before pouring. Makes a huge difference, especially when you're working outside in the cold. The heat from the cup keeps the brew warm way longer than you'd think.

Try it with a stainless steel tumbler too, just run hot water through it first before you pour. Works like a charm for keeping it warm on those cold morning walks.
