Update: I used to skip all the algorithm practice questions until a senior dev on Reddit called me out

Honestly, I thought learning sorting algorithms was a waste of time for building real apps. Then a guy in the r/learnprogramming subreddit said 'if you can't write a basic binary search from scratch, you'll never pass a FAANG interview in Austin.' That comment stuck with me. I spent 3 weekends grinding through LeetCode medium problems and now I see how they actually help break down complex logic. Has anyone else changed their mind about practicing DSA?

Nah man, they're right that FAANG interviews in Austin are tough, but it's not just Austin. Those companies expect the same DSA standards everywhere now. Did you find the LeetCode grind actually helped with your day to day coding or just interview prep?

I mean, I've seen people get roasted in those threads but it's usually like vague passive-aggressive stuff, not someone straight up saying you'll never pass a FAANG interview. idk, maybe it's just me but that feels super confrontational for a learning subreddit. but hey, sounds like it worked out for you. i still can't believe someone would be that direct though.
