Thought Python was too slow for real work until a guy at a Akron meetup ran 2 million rows in 40 seconds
I went to a beginner Python meetup in Akron two weeks ago mostly for the free pizza and figured the language was just for toy scripts. Then a guy there loaded a 2 million row CSV on his laptop and had it sorted and grouped in about 40 seconds while I was still opening Excel. So what made you finally take a beginner language seriously, was it a project, a class, or just watching someone else use it?
Had the same thing happen to me with a buddy who scripted some boring work stuff in like 20 lines while I was doing it by hand for hours. Watching someone actually use it beats any tutorial, you can't argue with 2 million rows in 40 seconds. That pizza was worth way more than you paid for it, huh?
