Serious question, did anyone else start coding by just copying and pasting stuff?

I used to make my first websites by finding code online and just slapping it in, no clue how it worked. That changed about 6 months ago when I tried to fix a button that broke. I spent 3 hours just staring at it. Now I force myself to type everything out and read the docs, even if it's slower. How do you guys actually learn what the code does?

Ever notice how we learn most things by messing up the copy first?

My piano teacher always said you learn the piece by playing it wrong a few times first.

Yeah, I read something once about how your brain actually needs to make the mistake to learn the right path. It's like the wrong note helps map out the right one.
