Visited a small shop and saw a CNC running without any coolant

I stopped by a local fabrication place in Tucson last Tuesday to pick up some scrap aluminum. The owner was running a Haas VF-2 with zero coolant, just dry cutting everything. I asked him about it and he said he's been doing it for 5 years without any major tool wear issues. Has anyone else tried running dry like that or is this guy just lucky?

I used to think you absolutely needed coolant for aluminum but this guy's results kind of changed my mind honestly.

Does the guy ever cut aluminum or is it just steel? Aluminum without coolant seems like asking for trouble.
