Vent: Snapped a 1/4 end mill on a simple 6061 profile cut today
Been running this same routine for months without issues, then my spindle speed dropped 200 rpm somehow and the tool just gave up. Anyone else ever track down a sudden rpm drop to a greasy encoder wheel?

Nah man, that sounds like a belt slipping not an encoder issue.

@victorclark belts don't lie though, maybe your machine just can't carry a tune.

Yeah jordan464 I gotta push back a little here. Greasy encoder wheels are a real thing, especially if you've been blowing chips all over the place. A belt slip usually gives you a bigger shudder or a visible slowdown, not just a steady 200 rpm drop. I've had a machine act fine for months then toss a hissy fit over a dirty encoder.
