Tried synthetic coolant vs water soluble and one side was way worse for tool wear

After running both on a Haas VF-2 for a month at our shop in Detroit, the synthetic stuff kept the machine cleaner but I swear I burned through end mills twice as fast - anyone else see a tradeoff like that?

You run through tools faster with synthetic and it's not just you. Cleaner machine but the lubricity isn't there, so the cutting edge takes more heat and wears down quicker.

@stella279, do you think the heat buildup is hard on carbide or just HSS tooling?
