Still seeing guys set tool offsets wrong after 10 years
Was helping a new guy at the shop last Friday and he had his Z offset off by 0.015. That's almost a sixteenth. I asked him where he set it and he said he just touched off by eye. Drove me NUTS. How hard is it to use a piece of paper or a height setter? If you crash a tool into my fixture because you guessed the offset, I'm not helping you fix it. Anyone else have coworkers who refuse to use proper measuring tools?

Do you think it's a confidence thing, or are they just so used to getting away with sloppy work that they don't see the point in setting it right the first time? I mean, I've seen guys who'll spend 10 minutes dicking around with a part that's already cutting wrong instead of just taking the 30 seconds to check their offsets with a gauge. Like, you could have been running good parts by now if you'd just done it right from the start.
