PSA: Overheard a new guy say he just copies the last program and hopes it works

Honestly, I was grabbing a coffee in the break room yesterday and heard a fresh hire from the day shift telling his buddy he doesn't really read the G-code. He just loads the last job's program for a similar part and hits cycle start, saying 'it usually works out.' Ngl, my jaw almost hit the floor. I had a job six months ago where I did something kinda lazy like that on a simple bracket run, and I didn't catch that the previous program had a leftover tool change for a 1/2 inch end mill we weren't using anymore. Wrecked a $300 vise jaw and put the Haas down for half a day. It made me think about how easy it is to get complacent, especially on repeat jobs. What's your process for double-checking a program you're reusing, even for a 'simple' part?

Yeah, that kind of thing makes my stomach drop. It's so easy to think you're saving time until you're the one explaining a crash to the boss. I've learned the hard way that nothing is truly a copy-paste job.

My old shop had a rule to always dry run the first part with the single block and distance to go screens up, no matter what.

Ever try dry running it with the rapid override dialed way down too?
