Old timer at the shop said to run the finish pass at 0.005, and man he was right
Back in March a guy named Sal who has been running a Bridgeport since 1989 walked by my mill and said my finish cut was too heavy at 0.015. I figured he was just being an old grump, but he bet me a coffee so I dropped it to 0.005 and the surface came out so smooth my inspector asked if I ran it through the grinder. I bought him the coffee and now I hear his voice in my head on every finish pass. What depth of cut do you guys run for a nice finish on mild steel?
