Had the worst week of my career running a Haas VF-2 last spring
I was running production on a Haas VF-2 in March and everything that could go wrong did. First, the coolant pump died on Tuesday, cost me $400 to replace. Then on Thursday I crashed a brand new $600 carbide end mill because the Z offset got bumped. By Friday the spindle started making a grinding noise and the boss says it's my fault lol. I swear some weeks the machine just hates you for no reason. Has anyone else had a run where one machine just fights you all week?

$400 for a coolant pump sounds like a bargain compared to my last Haas repair bill.

Oh man, I feel for you! That machine was definitely out to get you that week. But just a small thing - a new coolant pump for a Haas VF-2 shouldn't cost $400 unless you bought a super fancy aftermarket one. I've replaced a few on our shop floor and they usually run more like $150-200 for the OEM replacement. Might be worth checking if you got overcharged or if it included labor or something. Still, losing a $600 end mill because of a bumped offset is the kind of thing that makes you want to scream into a pillow.
