Finally figured out why my spindle bearings kept failing
Turns out I was running the coolant pressure way too high for the sealed bearings, blew out the grease in about 400 hours instead of the rated 6000. A tool rep from Haas told me to check the spec sheet after I showed him the damaged race, has anyone else had this happen with sealed vs open bearings?

My buddy Mike runs a small job shop over in Toledo and he had the exact same headache with his 20 year old Fadal. He kept blowing through spindle bearings every 6 or 7 months, swore it was the cheapest parts he could find. Turns out he was using a generic coolant mix that was way too aggressive for the sealed units, it was eating the rubber shields from the inside out. The local tool guy finally told him to switch to open bearings with an air purge line, that fixed it right up. He still runs the same coolant pressure but now he goes two years without touching the spindle. I always figured sealed meant sealed, but your post makes me want to double check my own setup this weekend.
