Downcut versus upcut for acrylic, I had it backwards for 3 years

I always ran upcut bits for acrylic sheets on my router table because I thought it cleared chips better, but last week a guy at a shop in Cleveland told me to flip to downcut for the top edge finish. He showed me a scrap piece after one pass and honestly the difference was night and day, no more fuzzy top edge and way less chipping. Anybody else stick with one direction out of habit and then get schooled on the proper way?
