Debate: $300 on a digital probe vs. a $50 dial indicator - which one actually saved you more scrap?

I dropped $300 on a fancy digital probe last month after a crash ate a $200 billet part, but my buddy swears his old dial indicator catches the same stuff for way less money, so what's the real move here?

Nah, I gotta disagree a bit here. That dial indicator can't log data or give you real numbers when you're trying to dial in tight tolerances, and I've saved way more than $300 in scrap just from having that digital readout catch stuff my old eyes would miss.

Don't you find that once you upgrade one tool, everything else suddenly feels obsolete?
