Can we talk about how offline tool offsets beat typing them in at the control
I ran the same aluminum job on two machines last week, one where I measured every tool with a height gauge and touched off offline, and one where I typed offsets straight into the Haas at the panel. The offline batch ran all 40 parts with zero scrap, and the other one ate 3 parts before I caught a fat finger on a .005 that should have been .050. Standing at the control fighting a tiny keypad with chips in my boots is how mistakes happen, plain and simple. Doing it at the bench with the print in front of me takes maybe 10 extra minutes up front. That trade is a no brainer when one scrapped part costs more than an hour of my time. Do you guys touch off offline or still punch numbers in at the machine, and has it ever bit you?
