Appreciation post: that $20 feeler gauge set I almost threw away

Last week I was cleaning out my toolbox and found a cheap feeler gauge set I bought 3 years ago from Harbor Freight. I was about to toss it because the 0.002 inch blade was bent. Figured I'd try straightening it on my granite surface plate with a brass hammer. It took maybe 2 minutes and now it reads true again. Has anyone else salvaged a tool they thought was junk with a simple fix?

Think twice about using a bent feeler gauge even after you straightened it. That tiny bit of metal fatigue changes the thickness just enough to throw off your clearances.

Friend tried straightening a torque wrench with a hammer. It did not end well.
