The lenticular cloud over Mount Rainier that made me rethink my whole setup

I was at Paradise last summer when that lens cloud sat perfectly still for 45 minutes, and my phone camera just couldn't capture the layers right. Has anyone else found a decent budget camera that handles those stacked altocumulus lenticularis formations without breaking the bank?

Have you looked at the Sony A6000 with a kit lens? I picked one up used for cheap and the manual focus ring lets you dial in those cloud layers way better than any phone. The dynamic range is solid for the price and the lightweight body is perfect for hauling up to Paradise.

So you stood there for 45 minutes with your phone like a tourist at a concert holding up a lighter? I respect the dedication but yeah phones just can't do clouds any favors. My buddy swears by an old Canon Rebel he got for like 200 bucks with a basic zoom lens and his lenticular shots actually look like clouds not weird blobs. Just don't ask me about settings because I'd probably accidentally take a picture of my thumb.
